CSV to Excel Help & FAQ

This guide explains how to convert CSV to Excel, troubleshoot common issues, and keep your data private with local processing.

Quick start

  1. Open the converter on the homepage.
  2. Upload one or more CSV files (drag-and-drop is supported).
  3. Review the detected delimiter and encoding if prompted.
  4. Convert and download the Excel (.xlsx) files.

Common issues

  • Garbled text: Choose the correct encoding (UTF-8 is recommended for most files).
  • Wrong columns: Check the delimiter (comma, tab, semicolon) and re-run the conversion.
  • Leading zeros removed: Enable "Preserve leading zeros" in settings or set the column type to Text during import.
  • Scientific notation: Enable "Prevent scientific notation" or set the column type to Text before opening in Excel.
  • Large files: Split very large files into smaller parts for faster processing.
  • Mobile upload issues: Try a desktop browser for better stability with large files.

Open or import CSV in Excel

If you want to open a CSV file in Excel with columns automatically, use Excel's import options so you can choose the delimiter and column types.

  1. Open Excel and choose the CSV import option.
  2. Select the correct delimiter (comma, tab, or semicolon) to split columns.
  3. Set sensitive columns to Text to preserve leading zeros and avoid scientific notation.

Privacy and security

All conversions are processed locally in your browser. Files are not uploaded to a server, ensuring full privacy and compliance for sensitive data.

Limits and performance

Most CSV files convert in seconds. For the best experience, keep each file within the recommended size limit and close other heavy applications when processing many files.
